Hello Ryan:
I hope you don’t mind me
reaching out to you. I’ve been a fan of yours since Huffpost days and I am
a long-time member of TYT (mid 2000s).
I listen and watch a lot of
TYT and see economic discussion and analysis that is well-intentioned but short
on ultimate solutions - Cenk, Ana, and others expressing
frustration about insufficient jobs as a result of trade deficits, robots, and
bad policies. Even Bernie Sanders’ rhetoric leaves large gaps in that he
has not followed stringently to his economic advisers’ counsel (Stephanie
Kelton, Jamie Galbriath, Gerald Friedman). This is unfortunate as it
leaves the question: “What do we do?” and “How are we going to pay for it?”
hanging; and the “Taxing the Rich” meme is a loser. (The rich fight
back and often win.)
Then I saw your interview
with Ana Kasparian after the Medicare for All presentation and my eyes lit up
when it was obvious you were familiar with MMT and Ana knew who Stephanie
Kelton was. I think if the Left got behind MMT it would crystalize solutions
and win over a huge chunk of the working class population – even some
“deplorables”. It would close the circle and answer the “How do we
pay for it?” question to the satisfaction of even the right wingers – not to
mention Justice Democrats. The Doggy bullet-points it for us in the
link below - ultimate solutions to a lot of economic and social problems backed
up with the rock solid academic analysis based on Modern Monetary Theory
(MMT). The objective is a
· Job
Guaranty, as part of a
· Full Employment
Fiscal Policy
Is it possible to have this
pursued as valuable and fertile content for the shows? I’m sure a lot of
MMT PHDs in economics would be open to talking on the air and providing the
solutions to a better world. I’m thinking “MMT on TYT”, a weekly half
hour segment like “Friday’s with Bernie”, Thom Hartman’s weekly show with
Bernie Sanders:
I’m reaching out to you to
see if you recognize this as a huge opportunity to change the economic dialogue
towards solution-based discussions. So here’s some content.
What do you think?
Francisco
